Why is Sport Chanbara insurance essential?

Sport chanbara, run by the ISCA, is practised with foam swords that allow fast, free combat, without the strict etiquette of kendo. Although the weapons are soft, the speed of movement, the dodges and the falls cause bruises, ankle sprains and impacts. Federation licences and standard contracts cover these accidents poorly, and treatment and rehabilitation costs pile up.

A dedicated personal accident insurance takes over: medical costs, care, rehabilitation and disability are covered according to your plan, at the dojo as in ISCA competition. You can then fight with a free mind.

If you are injured during training, a bout or a tournament, follow these steps.

1. Contact the assistance service first. Before any medical spending, call the assistance line shown on your card: its prior agreement is required before any hospitalisation, procedure, medical transport or repatriation.

2. Follow its instructions. Unless there is a life-threatening emergency, wait for its go-ahead before incurring costs; it directs you to the most suitable facility and arranges your care.

3. Keep every supporting document. Initial medical certificate, reports, prescriptions and invoices are essential to process your claim.

Sport chanbara uses foam weapons and freer rules, while kendo uses a bamboo shinai, bogu armour and strict etiquette. For that discipline, see our kendo insurance.
