A question? All the answers about your sports insurance

01. Understanding AxeoSport Insurance

No. None of our plans include civil liability coverage.

Our insurance policies are exclusively dedicated to your personal protection in the event of a sports accident.

They cover your own bodily injuries as well as assistance services, including medical expenses and repatriation.

However, material or bodily damage caused to a third party is not covered.

No. The contract offered by AxeoSport / Assure Ton Sport is not considered an official sports license.

It is an individual accident insurance policy covering medical expenses related to an accident, assistance/repatriation, as well as disability, death, search, and rescue guarantees depending on the selected options.

Some federations, clubs, circuits, or event organizers may still require an official sports license to participate in an activity, training session, or competition.

In this case, our insurance does not replace the license required by the organizer or federation.

However, our contract may be subscribed to in addition to a sports license in order to benefit from broader insurance coverage.

Our individual accident insurance policies cover more than 430 sports and high-adrenaline activities.

Unlike some travel or standard insurance policies, our coverage is specifically designed to protect athletes during sports activities.

Coverage may include:

- bodily injuries;
- medical expenses;
- hospitalization;
- emergency transport;
- repatriation;
- disability and death benefits;
- legal protection.

Our insurance protects only the insured person, not equipment or damage caused to third parties.

This approach allows us to offer coverage suited to both amateur athletes and high-level athletes.

AxeoSport is a sports insurance for leisure and competition activities offered by AxeoSport (Assure Ton Sport group policy GSL No. ADP20181710), insured by Groupama Rhône-Alpes Auvergne through Groupe Special Lines.

The 24/7 medical assistance is operated by Mutuaide (Groupama Assistance).

Our insurance may cover:

- accidents;
- medical expenses;
- repatriation;
- trip cancellation;
- trip interruption.

Coverage applies to the practice of hundreds of sports, both in France and abroad.

  • Public/Third-Party Liability: It only covers compensation for the bodily injury or property damage that you cause to others (to a third party). Our policy does not include any cover for injuries or damage caused to a third party.
  • Personal Accident cover: This is the heart of our AxeoSport policy. It covers your own injuries sustained during a sporting activity (fractures, tendinitis, etc.). This protection applies in all circumstances, whether you are at fault or not, and even if it is a simple fall with no third party involved.

  • Private health insurance (mutuelle): It covers your everyday routine care and healthcare expenses.
  • AxeoSport insurance: It applies in addition to French social security (Sécurité sociale) and your private health insurance (mutuelle) in order to reimburse the medical and hospital costs left payable by you after a sports accident. It also includes essential emergency services that a standard private health insurance policy does not offer:
    • Cover for search and rescue costs (including by helicopter) up to 50,000€.
    • The organisation and full cover of your medical repatriation.
    • The payment of a guaranteed lump sum in the event of permanent disability or death.
    • Pro rata temporis reimbursement of the services you have lost (lift passes, lessons, rental) if your stay is cut short.

Standard travel insurance or life insurance policies contain a great many exclusions and generally refuse to cover you if you take part in sports considered "dangerous" or "extreme".

Our AxeoSport policy was designed from the outset for sporting effort: it covers more than 400 sports and adventure activities. What is more, we cover you for high-risk activities such as snowboarding or freeriding, without requiring the mandatory presence of a qualified instructor.

The insurance provided with your bank cards or your standard insurance policies excludes most board sports, combat sports, strength sports, motor sports and air sports, because they consider the risk of bodily injury to be too high.

At AxeoSport, we refuse to deprive you of your passion. To that end, make sure you select your sporting activity correctly when you take out your policy online, so that the cover adapts perfectly and automatically to your own situation.

Only a sports federation can issue you a licence. While a licence generally includes Public/Third-Party Liability cover (for damage caused to others), its cover for your own bodily injury is very often insufficient in the event of a serious accident.

The AxeoSport policy comes in addition to your licence in order to significantly increase your cover amounts and your protection limits according to the level of risk you take.

02. Policy Application and Operation

You will receive your sports insurance certificate, your assistance card and our General Terms and Conditions by email (remember to check your spam folder).

You can also find your contract in your personal account by entering your login (email address) and password. A temporary password is sent to you as soon as you request a quote or take out a policy.

Quotes and subscriptions are completed on our website via the "online quote" section. The process takes just a few minutes using a simplified form. You can receive your document by email right before a match or a school sports activity.

You simply need to provide basic information: the coverage period (from date to date), the sport practised, your country of residence and destination, along with a few personal details (surname, first name, date of birth and nationality).

No, once the policy has been taken out, it can no longer be modified. It is therefore important to carefully assess your cover needs according to your sporting activity before taking out the policy. We especially recommend checking: the medical expenses cover, the disability benefit, and options such as hospitalisation cover.

However, if you are still within the 14-day cooling-off period and your cover has not yet started, you can cancel your policy and then take out a new one with the plan of your choice.

Regardless of your level of responsibility, and whether the accident was your fault or not, our contract covers your bodily injuries as long as the incident occurs during sports practice.

For more information, you can download our General Terms and Conditions in PDF format at the bottom of our website.

The final pages detail the guarantees of each plan.

To convert your quote into a contract, log in to your customer area on axeosport.com.

Then go to the “My Profile” section.

Click on the three vertical dots next to the relevant quote and select “Subscribe Online”.

Your contract will be activated in just a few clicks.

Have you checked your spam or junk mail folder?

Sometimes our emails, including contractual documents, may be automatically placed there.

If you still cannot find your contract, you can download it directly from your personal account.

Simply log in using your email address and password.

You can receive your contract, attached documents, and general terms and conditions in French, English, Italian, or Spanish.

During your subscription, simply select your language at the top right of our website.

We recommend not using an automatic translator.

Your sports insurance subscription is completed entirely online in just a few minutes.

To ensure proper coverage, follow these steps:

1. Choose your plan and options

AxeoSport offers three levels of sports coverage, each designed to match a different type of athlete's needs.

The Basic Sports coverage provides access to 316 sports and sporting activities as defined in the General Terms and Conditions. It is suited to athletes practising leisure, training or competition activities within this category.

The Basic and Motorsports coverage extends this protection to 385 sports and sporting activities by automatically including motorsports. It offers greater flexibility for athletes who wish to practise disciplines from multiple categories.

The Basic, Motorsports and Aerial Sports coverage is the most comprehensive plan offered by AxeoSport. It covers up to 439 sports and sporting activities and includes all three categories defined in the policy. By choosing a higher category, you automatically benefit from the coverage of the lower categories.

Please note: certain sports marked with a double asterisk (**) are subject to specific pricing and require an additional declaration at the time of subscription. Any participation in a ranked event requires the subscription of the Competition Option.

To view the full list of covered sports and compensation conditions, please refer to our General Terms and Conditions available at the bottom of the page.

Yes, absolutely! You can take out your policy in just a few minutes on our website using a simplified form. You can perfectly well receive your insurance certificate by e-mail just before starting your sporting activity, your training session or your match.

It is instant. The policy is taken out online only, in less than 2 minutes, with your bank card. Your cover takes effect immediately on the effective date and time shown on your certificate, subject to payment of the premium.

In addition, if your hospital stay exceeds 7 days, we pay for the return ticket of a relative to come to your bedside, as well as their hotel costs (up to 150€ per night, with a maximum of 1,500€).

No, it is optional but very useful. It reimburses your non-recoverable trip costs (lift passes, hotels, courses) if a serious sports accident or a death prevents you from travelling. It must be taken out on the day of booking or within the following 15 days at the latest.

If you make decisions or incur expenses on your own initiative (transport, hospitalization, etc.), these expenses will not be reimbursed.

The repatriation decision, the choice of transportation, and the hospitalization location are exclusively determined by the Groupama Assistance doctors, in coordination with the local doctor and, if necessary, your family.

  1. Move to a safe place and contact the local emergency services if necessary.
  2. Call our assistance provider immediately on the number shown on your assistance card before incurring any personal costs, in order to obtain their prior agreement.
  3. Submit your claim notification within 7 days.

Immediately contact our medical assistance centre, available 24/7, on the telephone number shown on your membership certificate or on your assistance card (quoting the agreement or convention number indicated on your card).

Let the local rescue authorities organize the helicopter evacuation (our assistance service cannot take the place of the local emergency services). Contact us as soon as possible to open your file. Carefully keep the original itemized invoice for the search and rescue costs issued by the authorities in order to obtain your reimbursement (up to 50,000€).

11. Claims and Reimbursement

In the event of an emergency requiring rescue services, hospitalization, or repatriation, it is mandatory to contact our assistance service before incurring any expenses or arranging any intervention.

The contact number is indicated on the assistance card sent to you by email after your subscription.

To report a claim, you have a maximum period of 7 days after the incident.

Your claim must be sent by email to:
[email protected]

To process your file, please provide:

- a detailed description of the accident circumstances;
- the initial medical certificate or hospitalization report;
- the medical invoices together with reimbursement statements from Social Security and your health insurance provider.

No, you do not have to pay hospitalization expenses in advance, provided that you contact our assistance partner before any expense is incurred.

To benefit from this direct coverage, you or a relative must immediately contact Groupama Assistance.

Any expense incurred without the prior approval of the assistance service may compromise your reimbursement.

Our insurance policy draws a clear distinction between emergency assistance services and insurance benefits:

  • ASSISTANCE part (Emergency / Direct payment): This is IMMEDIATE and PRIOR. Before incurring the slightest medical expense, being hospitalized abroad or arranging a medical repatriation, you or one of your relatives must compulsorily contact our medical assistance centre beforehand, on the telephone number shown on your assistance card or on your membership certificate. Please note: no expense incurred on your own initiative without prior written agreement may be reimbursed afterwards.
  • INSURANCE part (Reimbursement file): You have 7 days. For your additional reimbursement requests (medical expenses left payable by you, equipment breakage, disability capital), you must submit your claim notification in writing or by e-mail to [email protected] no later than 7 days after the accident. This file will enable our claims handlers to process your supporting documents and invoices once you are back home.

Depending on the case: your treatment forms and statements from French social security (Sécurité sociale)/your complementary health insurer (medical expenses); the original itemized invoice from the rescue teams (search and rescue); the rental invoice and proof of breakage (equipment damage); or the receipt of the police report (theft of luggage).

Premium refunds (cooling-off period) are paid within 30 days. As for the other settlements and reimbursements of medical expenses, they are processed immediately after your complete file has been validated by our claims handlers and our medical adviser.

12. Travel and International Coverage

Yes. The "Private Life" option is available only with the daily plan.

It provides extended coverage during your sports activities as well as throughout your trips and stays abroad.

With the "Private Life" option, you can travel with greater peace of mind during your stay.

In the event of a bodily injury accident, this information allows the insurer to organize the repatriation and appropriate assistance for the insured person.

The country of departure and the destination country are also necessary to assess the level of risk and the potential medical and assistance costs related to the trip.

Insurance rates may vary depending on the destination, as some countries have higher medical or repatriation costs than others.

The Europe Zone includes all European countries except Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova.

This zone also excludes the outermost regions of the European Union as well as overseas territories.

If you need broader coverage, other options are available.

If you practice your sport in several countries outside Europe, you must subscribe to a specific insurance contract for each country concerned.

The process is quick and simple. Each contract can be completed in less than 2 minutes through our mobile application available on the Play Store and Apple Store, or directly on our website.

If all your destinations are located within Europe, you must select the EUROPE plan.

Your coverage is valid worldwide, except in countries affected by war or major political instability.

This may notably include:

- civil or foreign wars;
- riots;
- public uprisings;
- major travel restrictions.

Before traveling, we recommend checking the security situation of your destination country.

In the event of country closure or serious security issues, the insurance will not be able to intervene.

No, our insurance covers accidents, but not border closures or administrative restrictions.

Coverage applies worldwide except in countries or areas subject to:

- travel restrictions;
- official quarantine zones;
- war situations;
- major political instability;
- restrictions for health, security, or weather-related reasons.

If an area is officially prohibited or heavily restricted by authorities, the insurance will not be able to intervene.

By default, AxeoSport coverage applies only during sports activities.

To also be protected during your travels, visits, and free time abroad outside of sports activities, you must subscribe to the “Private Life” option.

This option extends your coverage to your entire stay.

No. Unlike a traditional personal accident policy, the AxeoSport contract applies exclusively during the practice of sports and leisure activities.

Whether you practice your sport:

- within a club;
- through an association;
- or independently in the outdoors,

you benefit from coverage specifically designed for sports-related accidents.

The contract does not cover accidents occurring during everyday civil, social, or school activities, unless a specific guarantee expressly provides otherwise.

Yes, our cover applies worldwide (in the destination country stated on the certificate). Please note: countries in a state of war, affected by riots or subject to official travel restrictions are excluded. Our "Europe" coverage area, for its part, excludes Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova as well as the French overseas departments and territories (DOM-TOM).

Standard travel insurance policies (or those provided with your bank cards) exclude the majority of sports considered to be high-risk, extreme, motorized or airborne. AxeoSport was created specifically to cover you during your effort where the others stop, provided that you correctly select your sporting activity when taking out the policy.

15. Air Sports

The Air Sports cover brings together disciplines practised in the air, which are excluded from almost all standard insurance policies. At AxeoSport, they are available through our most comprehensive plan, which gives access to every sport in the policy.

The disciplines covered include:

  • Paragliding, adaptive paragliding, speed riding, free flight
  • Skydiving
  • Hang gliding, gliding, powered flight
  • Microlight (ULM) and paramotor
  • Hot-air ballooning and aerostation
  • Kitesurfing and snowkiting
  • Kite flying and model aircraft
  • Zip lining and highlining

Some of these disciplines are marked with a double asterisk (**) in the terms and conditions: they are subject to specific pricing and require an additional declaration when you take out the policy. Remember to select your exact discipline from the drop-down list when requesting your quote.

Please note: base jumping remains strictly excluded from all our plans. If your activity does not appear in the list, contact us before taking out cover.

Paragliding is covered by AxeoSport through the plan that includes Air Sports. You then benefit from the same cover as for any other discipline: reimbursement of the medical expenses left payable by you, a lump sum in the event of permanent disability or death, medical repatriation, and above all search and rescue cover up to 50,000€ — an essential point in paragliding, where a helicopter evacuation after landing in difficult terrain can be very expensive.

Adaptive paragliding and speed riding are covered on the same basis. Tandem, school and solo flying are all taken into account, provided you comply with the regulations in force.

If you take part in an event with a ranking (distance or accuracy competition), the Competition option is mandatory.

Yes. Skydiving is one of the disciplines available through the plan that includes Air Sports, whereas it is systematically excluded from bank card insurance and from most travel policies.

Whether you jump tandem on a first jump, on an AFF course or as an experienced solo jumper, your injuries are covered: additional medical expenses, hospitalisation, disability lump sum, repatriation.

Skydiving is marked with a double asterisk (**) in our terms and conditions: it is subject to specific pricing and to an additional declaration when you take out the policy. Select it precisely from the list of sports so that your cover is valid.

Not to be confused with base jumping, which remains strictly excluded from all our plans.

Yes. Microlights (ULM), paramotors, powered flight, gliding and hang gliding are all part of the AxeoSport Air Sports cover.

This is Personal Accident cover: it covers your own injuries in the event of a fall or accident, as well as your repatriation and search and rescue costs. It does not replace the compulsory aircraft insurance or the aviation third-party liability cover, which are the responsibility of the aircraft owner or of your flying club.

As these disciplines are subject to specific pricing, make sure you select yours from the drop-down list when requesting your quote, so that the policy matches the real risk of your activity.

Yes, and this is a common source of confusion. Although they are practised on water or on snow, kitesurfing and snowkiting are classified as Air Sports, because it is the kite that generates the traction and the risk of involuntary flight.

In practical terms, a plan limited to the basic sports is not enough: you must choose the plan that includes Air Sports in order to be genuinely covered.

Good to know: if you get into difficulty offshore, the search and rescue cover pays for the towing of your drifting equipment up to a limit of 1,200€, in addition to search costs of up to 50,000€.

Yes. Hot-air ballooning, aerostation, zip lining, highlining, kite flying and model aircraft are all attached to the Air Sports category, even when it is a one-off leisure activity during your holiday.

This is worth checking before booking a balloon flight or a treetop adventure day: your usual travel insurance, or the cover provided with your bank card, will very probably exclude these activities, whereas a fall from a platform or a hard landing in a basket can cause serious injury.

By choosing the most comprehensive plan, you automatically benefit from the cover of the lower categories: you therefore remain covered for all your other sports during the same trip.
