Why is Kobudo insurance essential?

Kobudo, the art of Okinawa's traditional weapons, is practised with the bo, sai, nunchaku or tonfa, in kata and in paired work. Handling weapons swung at high speed exposes you to bruises, hand and finger fractures and impacts when a weapon slips out of control. Federation licences and standard contracts cover these accidents poorly, and treatment and rehabilitation costs pile up.

A dedicated personal accident insurance takes over: medical costs, care, rehabilitation and disability are covered according to your plan, at the dojo as in WKKF competition. You can then handle your weapons with a free mind.

If you are injured during training, a grading or a competition, follow these steps.

1. Contact the assistance service first. Before any medical spending, call the assistance line shown on your card: its prior agreement is required before any hospitalisation, procedure, medical transport or repatriation.

2. Follow its instructions. Unless there is a life-threatening emergency, wait for its go-ahead before incurring costs; it directs you to the most suitable facility and arranges your care.

3. Keep every supporting document. Initial medical certificate, reports, prescriptions and invoices are essential to process your claim.

Kobudo is practised with traditional Okinawan weapons, while karate is empty-hand striking. For that discipline, see our karate insurance.
