Why is sumo insurance essential?

Sumo is fought on the dohyo, a raised clay ring: the goal is to push the opponent out or make them touch the ground, through powerful pushes, mawashi grips and throws. The head-on collisions and the impacts of heavyweight bodies place extreme strain on the knees, ankles, shoulders and spine, and a throw taken or a fall off the dohyo causes fractures, spinal trauma and dislocations. Even in training, the intensity of bouts takes its toll. A federation licence and standard contracts cover these accidents poorly, and the costs of care and rehabilitation add up.

A dedicated personal accident insurance takes over: medical costs, care, rehabilitation and disability are covered according to your guarantees, at the club and in IFS competition. You can progress with a free mind.

1. Contact assistance first. Before any medical expense, call the assistance line on your card: its prior agreement is required before any hospitalisation, procedure, medical transport or repatriation.

2. Follow its instructions. Except in a life-threatening emergency, wait for its agreement before incurring costs; it directs you to the most suitable facility and organises your care.

3. Keep all your supporting documents. Initial medical certificate, reports, prescriptions and invoices are essential to process your claim.
