Why is ssireum insurance essential?

Ssireum, Korean belt wrestling, is fought in a sand ring: each wrestler grips the opponent's satba belt and tries to bring any part of their body above the knee to the ground, using lifts, throws and leg techniques. These powerful lifts place heavy strain on the back, knees and shoulders, and a throw taken or a lift gone wrong causes fractures, sprains and dislocations. Even in training, the intensity of bouts takes its toll. A federation licence and standard contracts cover these accidents poorly, and the costs of care and rehabilitation add up.

If you are injured in training, in competition or at a seminar, follow these steps.

1. Contact assistance first. Before any medical expense, call the assistance line on your card: its prior agreement is required before any hospitalisation, procedure, medical transport or repatriation.

2. Follow its instructions. Except in a life-threatening emergency, wait for its agreement before incurring costs; it directs you to the most suitable facility and organises your care.

3. Keep all your supporting documents. Initial medical certificate, reports, prescriptions and invoices are essential to process your claim.

Ssireum is fought with a satba belt in a sand ring and rewards bringing the opponent to the ground, while sumo is won by pushing the opponent out of the ring or down. Whatever your discipline, we cover ssireum as well as sumo and Senegalese wrestling.
