Why is Aikido insurance essential?

Aikido is built on throws, pins and wrist locks, with many repeated falls (ukemi). Joint twists place heavy strain on the wrists and shoulders, and a poorly controlled landing on the mat causes sprains, dislocations and tendinitis. Even without competition, intensive practice takes its toll. Federation licences and standard contracts cover these accidents poorly, and treatment and rehabilitation costs pile up.

A dedicated personal accident insurance takes over: medical costs, care, rehabilitation and disability are covered according to your plan, at the dojo as at IAF seminars. You can then progress with a free mind.

If you are injured during a class, a seminar or a demonstration, follow these steps.

1. Contact the assistance service first. Before any medical spending, call the assistance line shown on your card: its prior agreement is required before any hospitalisation, procedure, medical transport or repatriation.

2. Follow its instructions. Unless there is a life-threatening emergency, wait for its go-ahead before incurring costs; it directs you to the most suitable facility and arranges your care.

3. Keep every supporting document. Initial medical certificate, reports, prescriptions and invoices are essential to process your claim.

Aikido focuses on throws and joint locks with no striking competition, while hapkido adds kicks and strikes. For that discipline, see our hapkido insurance.
