Why is K1 Kickboxing insurance essential?

Japanese kickboxing, or the K-1 format, allows fists, kicks, low kicks and knees, in an aggressive style inherited from the K-1 World Grand Prix. Repeated low kicks wear down the thighs, knees break the guard and knockouts are frequent, with head trauma and fractures to follow. Federation licences and standard contracts cover these accidents poorly, and treatment and rehabilitation costs pile up.

A dedicated personal accident insurance takes over: medical costs, care, rehabilitation and disability are covered according to your plan, in training as in K-1 bouts. You can then step into the ring with a free mind.

If you are injured during training, sparring or a fight, follow these steps.

1. Contact the assistance service first. Before any medical spending, call the assistance line shown on your card: its prior agreement is required before any hospitalisation, procedure, medical transport or repatriation.

2. Follow its instructions. Unless there is a life-threatening emergency, wait for its go-ahead before incurring costs; it directs you to the most suitable facility and arranges your care.

3. Keep every supporting document. Initial medical certificate, reports, prescriptions and invoices are essential to process your claim.

K1 allows low kicks and knees, while American kickboxing is limited to strikes above the waist. For that discipline, see our American kickboxing insurance.
