Why is Muay Thai insurance essential?

Muay thai, the art of eight limbs, allows fists, elbows, knees, kicks and clinch work. Knockouts are violent, elbows open cuts and repeated strikes cause rib fractures and trauma. The clinch and throws add even more risk. Federation licences and standard contracts cover these accidents poorly, and treatment and rehabilitation costs pile up.

A dedicated personal accident insurance takes over: medical costs, care, rehabilitation and disability are covered according to your plan, in training as in IFMA competition. You can then step into the ring with a free mind.

If you are injured during training, sparring or a fight, follow these steps.

1. Contact the assistance service first. Before any medical spending, call the assistance line shown on your card: its prior agreement is required before any hospitalisation, procedure, medical transport or repatriation.

2. Follow its instructions. Unless there is a life-threatening emergency, wait for its go-ahead before incurring costs; it directs you to the most suitable facility and arranges your care.

3. Keep every supporting document. Initial medical certificate, reports, prescriptions and invoices are essential to process your claim.

Muay thai is the modern ring sport, while muay boran is its traditional, ancestral form. For that practice, see our muay boran insurance.
