On the TMB, trouble rarely looks dramatic. An ankle turns on loose stones below a col, a boot slips on June snow, a wrist snaps in the fall. X-rays, a cast, sometimes surgery: your medical expenses are covered up to €150,000, on the French, Italian or Swiss side of the massif.
Between huts, rescue often arrives by helicopter, and in Switzerland or Italy the injured hiker can end up with the bill. Assistance and repatriation at actual cost pay for evacuation from the place of the accident and for your journey home afterwards, whichever valley you come down into.
Plenty of hikers come back to the massif to race, since several trail events follow sections of the Tour. The Competition option covers you in official competition, on each event and across the whole season, in France and abroad, on top of your days on foot.
A slide on a late snowfield or a fall from the ladders on one of the variants can leave permanent damage. If permanent disability is recognised, the disability lump sum can reach €200,000, paid to you to help adapt your home, your work or the way you get around.
The classic mistake is underestimating the accumulation. Five to eight hours a day, a pack that weighs too much and a thousand metres of descent before dinner wear knees down fast. In June, snow still lies on some cols. In high summer, storms often break in the afternoon, so a late start can mean hail on an exposed ridge.
Your hiking life does not end back in Les Houches. Weekend walks, day trips in the hills and treks further afield all carry the same risk of a bad fall. Our hiking insurance covers you all year round, on training outings as well as long-distance routes, at home or abroad, wherever you live.
Most people walk the TMB anticlockwise from Les Houches, passing through Courmayeur in Italy and Champex in Switzerland. The route crosses several cols above 2,500 m and relies on a network of huts and gîtes that fill up early, so beds are best booked months ahead.
You lead groups on multi-day treks, sleeping in a different hut each night. We insure all your participants under a single policy. Medical assistance can be reached 24/7, day and night, for the whole itinerary, and repatriation is included. We can also partner with or sponsor your departures, anywhere in the world.
Yes. The Tour du Mont-Blanc crosses three countries and your personal accident insurance follows you through each of them, whatever your country of residence. Nothing changes at the border, on the trail or in the huts.
Yes. The policy insures you as an individual, not an agency or an organiser. Whether you walk solo, with friends or with a mountain leader, the cover applies in exactly the same way throughout the insured period.
No. AxeoSport is not cancellation insurance, so it does not refund hut nights, transport or travel costs. It deals with the consequences of a bodily injury, meaning medical care, rescue, repatriation and permanent disability.
Assistance arranges evacuation from where the accident happened, by helicopter when the rescue services decide it is needed, then transfer to a suitable hospital and your return home. These costs are covered at actual cost.
The price depends on how long you need cover and which options you choose, including the Competition option. The online quote gives you the exact figure in a few minutes, so you can sort it out before booking your huts.
