A tunnel, 16.1 km of asphalt and cover that keeps up

icon Frais médicaux

A fall on the tunnel ramp, up to €150,000 in care

The drop into the IJ tunnel is quick, shaded and shoulder to shoulder. A clipped foot there lands you on concrete rather than tarmac, and the sequence runs from scan to operating table. Medical costs are covered up to €150,000, surgery included.

icon Transport et rapatriement

Finishing in Zaandam, getting home from there

The race ends sixteen kilometres from where it started, away from your hotel and often from your own country. If a break keeps you in the Netherlands, assistance and repatriation are covered at real cost, all the way to your front door.

icon Option compétition

A chip time in September, a season of starts

Ten miles with a chip and a result list means official competition, the exact wording many policies use to step back. The Competition option keeps your September bib covered, and every other road race you line up for during the year.

icon Capital invalidité

Up to €200,000 when the injury does not heal

A snapped tendon in a barriered finish, a head knock in the pack, a back that will not forgive sixteen fast kilometres. If the accident leaves permanent disability, a capital sum of up to €200,000 is paid to help with what comes next.

Why ten miles punishes runners who treat it as a long 10 km

The distance sits awkwardly between two paces. With 50,000 starters the opening kilometres are elbow to elbow, the tunnel is warm and airless, and the field surges again on the way out. Legs that have only ever raced 10 km find the last four kilometres a different sport, and that is where muscles tear.

Distance running is not one Sunday in September. Long runs, hill sessions and sixty kilometre weeks carry most of the real exposure. Our distance running insurance covers training and racing, at home and abroad, for policyholders living anywhere, so the cover does not begin and end with a bib number.

FAQ

Before the tunnel section, what runners ask us

Yes. The contract makes no distinction between parts of the route. A fall on the ramp into the IJ tunnel and a fall on the last street in Zaandam sit under the same guarantees.

Yes. It applies in the Netherlands and anywhere else, whatever country you live in, in training as on race morning, and it stays with you until you are back home again.

No. This is individual accident insurance rather than cancellation cover. The bib, the hotel and the flights stay your own cost. What is covered is bodily injury suffered while running.

By stretching the long run gradually and rehearsing race pace, instead of adding hard sessions. The jump from 10 to 16 kilometres is paid for by tendons and hamstrings when it is made in a hurry.

That depends on how long you insure yourself for, the sport you declare and whether the Competition option is added. The online quote prices it before you commit to anything at all.
