Does a race this far from the city need its own cover?

icon Frais médicaux

Cuts and twisted ankles on burning black sand

Black volcanic sand stores heat and the pebbles roll underfoot. A clumsy exit from the water, an ankle that folds, a deep cut that needs stitching before you can even think about the bike. Your medical costs are covered up to €150,000, from first aid to surgery.

icon Transport et rapatriement

Moving an injured athlete off the northern coast

Serious trauma in the north of the island usually means a transfer, sometimes a flight. Assistance and repatriation are covered at actual cost, from the stretcher on the coast road to the journey back to your own front door.

icon Option compétition

Official racing here and everywhere else this year

Plenty of athletes treat this race as one stop in a longer season of starts. The Competition option covers racing under official rules, both the olympic distance and aquathlon here and every other number you wear during the year.

icon Capital invalidité

Up to €200,000 when an injury never fully heals

The Caribbean coast road drops fast, and losing the front wheel on a descent can damage a pelvis or a shoulder for good. The permanent disability capital pays up to €200,000, which funds long rehabilitation and the changes that follow.

Steep roads, heavy swell and the May heat

The bay looks flat until the Caribbean swell lifts and the turn buoy starts moving away from you. On the bike, the northern roads throw short brutal ramps at you, then narrow descents hemmed in by vegetation. By May, the end of the dry season has the air at its heaviest. Heat exhaustion and crashes account for most incidents here.

A triathlon is built over winter, through months of pool lengths, turbo sessions and long rides on open roads. That is also where most accidents happen, with no marshals and no medical tent nearby. An annual triathlon insurance policy follows you through training and racing, in the Caribbean, in Europe and anywhere else you travel.

FAQ

Athletes' questions about racing at Le Prêcheur

Yes. Both formats sit under the same cover. Whether you swim and run or take on the full 51.5 km, medical costs, assistance and repatriation apply exactly the same way from the moment of the accident.

The race is usually held in May, at the end of the dry season, and the next edition is to be confirmed. You can buy cover as soon as entries open, without waiting for the final date.

Yes. Cover does not depend on where you live. A British, Canadian or Italian athlete racing at Le Prêcheur gets the same medical costs and the same assistance as someone who lives on the island.

No. This is personal accident insurance, not cancellation insurance. Neither your travel nor your entry fee is refunded. We cover the bodily consequences of an accident, not the decision to stay home.

It depends on the length of cover, the format you enter and whether the Competition option is added. The online quote shows your own figure before you commit to anything.
