What an SSDT entrant should have sorted before day one

icon Frais médicaux

Broken wrist on a mossy rock, treated up to €150,000

Sections climb through mossy boulders and drop into fast-flowing burns, and a bike that stops dead tends to throw its rider sideways. Wrist and ankle fractures, cracked ribs and knee injuries are common outcomes. Medical costs up to €150,000 cover treatment, hospital stays and surgery, in Scotland or back home.

icon Transport et rapatriement

Hurt far from any road, brought out and taken home

Some sections sit well away from the nearest tarmac, reached only by moorland tracks. If a crash leaves you unable to ride out, assistance and repatriation at actual cost arranges your evacuation from the spot where it happened and your journey home, wherever in the world you live.

icon Option compétition

Observed, scored and ranked, so the Competition option matters

The SSDT is an official competition, with observers on every section and a final results table. The Competition option covers you for all six days and for the rest of your trials season, in practice as well as on the event itself. It is what extends your cover to official competition.

icon Capital invalidité

Back injuries from a loop on a rock step, up to €200,000

Looping out on a steep rock step or having the bike land on top of you can leave lasting damage to the spine, shoulder or knee. The permanent disability capital of up to €200,000 is there to help you adapt your home, work and daily life if an injury leaves a permanent disability.

Why do the Highlands catch out even seasoned trials riders?

Weather in Lochaber in May can swing from sunshine to sleet within an hour, and the higher ground stays cold. Newcomers underestimate the long road and moor loops between groups of sections, the fatigue that builds by midweek and how little grip wet stone offers. One wrong line in a burn is enough to end up underneath the bike.

Trials riding does not stop once the SSDT is over. Club trials, quarry practice and woodland sessions carry the same risk of falls all year round, often on ground far from help. Our enduro insurance covers off-road motorcycling in training and in competition, at home and abroad, whatever your country of residence.
