Your cover between the cliffs of the Avon Gorge

Crossing traffic on the Portway and turned ankles

A long section of the course follows the Portway out and back, so runners pass each other, bunch up at the turn and change pace. One misplaced foot or a clipped heel is enough for a sprain. Your medical costs are covered up to €150,000, including treatment, hospital stays and surgery.

Far from home in Bristol, with the trip back handled

Bristol draws runners from all over Britain and abroad, many of them making a weekend of it. If an injury stops you taking the train, car or plane home as planned, assistance arranges your repatriation at actual cost, from the place of the accident to your door.

A chip-timed May half, then the rest of your season

The AJ Bell Great Bristol Run is an official race with a bib and results. The Competition option covers you in official competition that day and across your whole season, from winter cross country through to autumn halves and marathons.

Lasting injury from a fall? Up to €200,000 in capital

On the road, a heavy fall late in the race or a collision at a drinks station can cause serious harm. If it results in a permanent disability, a lump sum of up to €200,000 helps you adapt your home, your work and your daily routine.

Between gorge and city, the traps to know before you start

The floor of the gorge can funnel wind and hold the damp, and May weather swings between cool spells and showers. The usual mistakes still apply: going out too fast, new shoes, skipped drinks stations. On the out-and-back section, seeing faster runners coming the other way tempts you to push too early, and your legs make you pay before the finish.

Bristol is a city of hills, and many runners prepare by stacking up hill reps and long winter runs. Those sessions bring the same sprains and falls as the race itself. Our half marathon insurance covers you all year, in training and in competition, at home or abroad, whatever your country of residence.
