The hammer throw is built on three or four fast turns in the circle before releasing a heavy ball on a wire. The centrifugal force and the rotation under load place heavy strain on the lower back, shoulders and knees, and a badly controlled turn or a slip in the circle causes lumbago, tendinitis, knee twists and impact trauma.
