Who gets you out if you're injured deep inside a cirque?

Twisted ankles on wet volcanic rock

Log steps, slippery basalt, roots slick with rain: over 136 km, ankles and knees take a pounding. A bad sprain, a wrist broken while breaking a fall, a deep cut from sharp rock. Medical expenses up to €150,000 cover treatment, hospital care and surgery after the accident.

Getting out of Mafate, where no road goes

The Mafate cirque can only be reached on foot or by air, and other parts of the route are far from any road. After an accident, assistance and repatriation at actual cost organise your evacuation from where it happened and your journey home, whether to mainland France or anywhere else.

When a fall leaves a knee or back damaged for good

Between Saint-Pierre and Saint-Denis, what trips walkers up

The route strings together endless climbs and knee-jarring descents on trails that are often wet. Classic mistakes: setting off too fast, underestimating the climbing, skimping on sleep, forgetting a head torch and warm layers for the high ground, where nights turn chilly. Coastal heat at the start, then cold up high, catches many visitors off guard.

Hiking doesn't stop when the event ends: mountain days, treks abroad, long training walks with a loaded pack. Our walking insurance covers you on every outing, in competition and in training, on Réunion, in mainland France or anywhere else in the world, whatever your country of residence.
