Cover for a coast-to-coast Pyrenean traverse

icon Frais médicaux

Broken ankle on a scree slope landing, up to €150,000 in care

A misjudged landing on steep, rocky ground or a slip on a descent can put you in hospital, sometimes on the other side of the border. Medical expenses up to €150,000 cover treatment, hospital stays and surgery after a bodily injury, wherever in the range it happens.

icon Transport et rapatriement

Helicopter lift from a valley with no road

X-Pyr pilots often land far from any track, in side valleys only shepherds visit. Assistance and repatriation at actual cost arrange your evacuation from the accident site and bring you home afterwards, whether you live in Spain, France or anywhere else in the world.

icon Option compétition

Race-day flying, turnpoint after turnpoint

Racing pushes you to fly later, further and in air you would skip on a quiet weekend. The Competition option covers official competition on X-Pyr itself and across your whole hike and fly season, so the other official races on your calendar are included too.

icon Capital invalidité

Spinal injury after a collapse near a ridge

A wing collapse close to terrain or a hard impact with the slope can leave lasting damage to the back or legs. The permanent disability benefit, up to €200,000, helps you adapt your home, your work and your daily life once your condition has stabilised.

What tends to go wrong between the two coasts

Length is the real enemy. After days of hiking, tired legs and a tight schedule tempt pilots into marginal launches in the afternoon, just as storms build over the main ridge. Valley winds switch from one slope to the next, and an improvised landing on steep ground remains the classic way to get hurt.

Outside the race, a hike and fly pilot rarely stops: summer cross-country, winter outings, SIV or acro courses, year after year. A personal accident paragliding insurance policy follows you through every one of those sessions, training or competition, at home or abroad, whatever your country of residence.

X-Pyr at a glance

X-Pyr is a biennial hike and fly race linking the Basque coast to the Costa Brava, using nothing but legs and a paraglider. Only about thirty athletes start, all of them experienced pilots, which keeps the field small and leaves each one free to choose a line across the range.

  • Location: Hondarribia to Roses, Spain and France
  • Next edition: Next edition to be confirmed, usually June
  • Format: Hike and fly, about 500 km
  • Participants: Around 30 athletes
  • Conditions: High mountains, summer storms, remote terrain

FAQ

Pilots' questions before leaving Hondarribia

Yes. Much of X-Pyr is done on foot, often climbing with the wing on your back. A fall or a sprained knee on those stretches falls under the same personal accident insurance as your time in the air.

Yes. Cover applies in France and abroad, whatever your country of residence. Crossing the border several times during the race, which the route can require, makes no difference to your benefits.

No. This is not cancellation insurance, so it does not refund entry fees or travel to the Basque Country. It steps in after a bodily injury, for medical care, assistance and permanent disability.

It applies to training and racing alike, from cross-country flights to SIV courses. With the Competition option, the other official races on your season calendar are included as well, not just the Pyrenees traverse.

Price depends on your profile and the cover you choose, including the Competition option. The online quote gives you an exact figure in a few minutes, with no obligation, before you even register.
