Medieval streets, open lanes, one policy for every kilometre

Kerbs and cobbles in a tightly packed start

The opening kilometres thread through York's old centre, where cobbles, kerbs and a dense field make an ankle sprain or a heavy fall all too easy. Medical costs up to €150,000 cover emergency treatment, hospital stays and surgery after an accident, so a bad step does not become a bad bill.

icon Transport et rapatriement

When help is further away out in the villages

Once the course leaves the ring road, it runs through quiet villages where an ambulance takes longer to reach you. If you end up in hospital far from home, assistance and repatriation are covered at actual cost, from evacuation off the course to the journey back to your own door.

icon Option compétition

Racing for a qualifying time on a flat course

Plenty of runners come to York for its flat profile and a shot at a fast time. The Competition option covers you in official races, this one included, and keeps that cover running through every other race on your calendar for the whole season.

icon Capital invalidité

A late-race fall that leaves lasting damage

After three or four hours on your feet, a stumble in the final kilometres can injure a knee or shoulder for good. If an accident leaves you with permanent disability, a capital of up to €200,000 helps you adapt your home, your work and your daily life.

Where a fast, flat marathon goes wrong

October mornings in Yorkshire are often cool and damp, and runners misjudge their kit either way. The flat course tempts people out too fast, so cramp, dizziness and collapses tend to cluster after the 30 km mark. Narrow village roads add their own hazards, with elbows and heels in close quarters whenever the field bunches up.

Most marathon injuries happen long before race day: long runs on wet pavements, track sessions, tune-up half marathons. Our marathon insurance covers training as well as racing, in the UK and abroad, whatever your country of residence, so the months of build-up are protected along with the day itself.

Roman city, flat roads, 42.2 km: the race at a glance

York was founded by the Romans and later ruled by the Vikings, and its marathon packs that history into the opening kilometres before heading out into open farmland. The 10-mile race lets newer runners share the day's atmosphere without taking on the full distance.

FAQ

What York runners ask before the start

Yes. Cover follows the participant, not the distance. Whether you enter the marathon or the 10 miles, you are protected for medical costs, assistance, repatriation and permanent disability.

Yes, wherever you live. Cover applies in England as it does anywhere else, during the race and your training, with repatriation to your home if your condition requires it.

No. AxeoSport is not cancellation insurance, so neither your entry nor your travel is refunded. Treatment for an injury picked up in training is, however, covered within the limits of your policy.

Expect a cool start and possibly showers. Keep a throwaway layer for the wait at the start, wear shoes you have already broken in, and plan for the countryside sections, which are more exposed to wind than the city.

The price depends on your profile and the cover you choose, including the Competition option. Our online quote gives you the exact figure in a few clicks, with no commitment.
