Why is Wushu insurance essential?

Wushu, or kung fu, comes in two branches under the IWUF: taolu, acrobatic forms with jumps and traditional weapons, and sanda, full-contact combat with throws and knockouts. Jump landings, weapon handling and strikes cause sprains, fractures and trauma. Federation licences and standard contracts cover these accidents poorly, and treatment and rehabilitation costs pile up.

A dedicated personal accident insurance takes over: medical costs, care, rehabilitation and disability are covered according to your plan, in training as in IWUF competition. You can then practise with a free mind.

If you are injured during training, a demonstration or a competition, follow these steps.

1. Contact the assistance service first. Before any medical spending, call the assistance line shown on your card: its prior agreement is required before any hospitalisation, procedure, medical transport or repatriation.

2. Follow its instructions. Unless there is a life-threatening emergency, wait for its go-ahead before incurring costs; it directs you to the most suitable facility and arranges your care.

3. Keep every supporting document. Initial medical certificate, reports, prescriptions and invoices are essential to process your claim.

Wushu is dynamic and includes acrobatic forms and full-contact combat, while tai chi is a slow, internal practice. For that discipline, see our tai chi insurance.
