Why is Short Track insurance essential?

Short track is raced in a pack on a 111-metre oval: overtakes with contact, sharply banked corners at high speed and collective falls into the pads. Standard licences and contracts cover these accidents poorly, and treatment and rehabilitation costs pile up fast after a collision or a blade cut.

A dedicated personal accident insurance takes over: medical costs, care, rehabilitation and disability are covered according to your plan, in training as in ISU competition. You can then race every heat with a free mind.

If you are injured during training, a meeting or a competition, follow these steps.

1. Contact the assistance service first. Before any medical spending, call the assistance line shown on your card: its prior agreement is required before any hospitalisation, procedure, medical transport or repatriation.

2. Follow its instructions. Unless there is a life-threatening emergency, wait for its go-ahead before incurring costs; it directs you to the most suitable facility and arranges your care.

3. Keep every supporting document. Initial medical certificate, reports, prescriptions and invoices are essential to process your claim.

Short track is a 111 m pack race with contact, while long-track speed skating is a 400 m race against the clock. For that discipline, see our speed skating insurance.
