Wet tarmac, twisted ankle, €150,000 of medical costs

The long drop towards Inverness hammers quads and a foot that slides on wet tarmac can mean a bad sprain or a break. Medical costs up to €150,000 cover imaging, surgery and hospital stays after a bodily accident.

icon Transport et rapatriement

Exposed start line, nearest hospital far behind

The start sits on an open stretch of road, well away from any town. If you cannot walk off the course, assistance and repatriation at actual cost handle the evacuation and get you home, whichever country you live in.

icon Option compétition

Chip timing makes this official competition

A timed marathon with published results counts as official competition, and plenty of policies stop there. The Competition option covers you on race day and across the whole season, including the long summer build-up and any tune-up race.

icon Capital invalidité

Loch Ness Marathon, €200,000 if an injury leaves you disabled

A badly healed fracture or a head injury can leave permanent consequences and change what you are able to do at work. The permanent disability capital of up to €200,000 gives you a lump sum to adapt your home and your plans.

What actually goes wrong on this course?

Runners read the elevation profile as flat and get caught by the early climb, then spend long stretches on a gentle descent that quietly wrecks the quadriceps. Add a west wind, fine rain and a temperature that drops through the morning, and you get cramp, mild hypothermia and ankles rolling on soft verges.

Marathon training runs for months, and most injuries happen long before race week: a dark winter pavement, a hill session, a 30 km run in the rain. Annual marathon insurance keeps you covered through the whole build-up as well as on the day, at home and abroad.

FAQ

Runner questions about the Loch Ness Marathon

Yes. The policy applies whatever your country of residence and wherever you race, so you are covered on the Scottish road and on your training runs back home.

Yes. All three distances fall under the same personal accident cover. Your choice of race changes nothing about medical costs, assistance, repatriation or the permanent disability capital.

No. This is personal accident insurance, not cancellation insurance. Neither your bib nor your trip north is refunded. The cover deals with bodily injury during training and racing.

Cover is not limited to race day. A sprain on a January long run or a fall on an icy path opens the same rights to medical costs and assistance as an accident on the course.

It depends on the formula, the length of cover and whether you add the Competition option. The AxeoSport online quote shows your price in a couple of minutes with no commitment.
