Who pays if a Tramuntana descent goes wrong?

icon Frais médicaux

Missed hairpin in the Serra, €150,000 of treatment

The descents string hairpin after hairpin, with grit on the exit of each bend and dry stone walls where a barrier would be. Broken wrist, head injury, transfer to hospital: your medical costs are covered up to €150,000.

icon Transport et rapatriement

Rescue high on the climb, a flight home after

High on a mountain road an ambulance needs time to reach you, and getting home from an island means a flight, not a taxi. Assistance and repatriation are covered at actual cost, from the bend where you fell to your own address.

icon Option compétition

Licensed racing here and all winter after it

Many policies end the moment your entry counts as official competition. The Competition option insures competitive racing on this May half distance and for the rest of your year, across triathlons, sportives and open water events.

icon Capital invalidité

Lasting damage from a descent: up to €200,000

Leaving the road on a fast mountain descent can cause harm that follows you long after the flight home. The permanent disability capital reaches €200,000, money for adapting your house, your car and the way you earn a living.

Two problems a visiting triathlete should plan for

The first is a mass swim start with thousands of arms in the same stretch of water, where kicks and nails do real damage before the first buoy. The second is the descent off the Serra, taken flat out after a long climb, on tarmac that can carry sand and shares its hairpins with hire cars coming the other way.

Mallorca is also a training island, and spring camps pile on cycling kilometres along with crashes, often in groups that have never ridden together before. A year round triathlon insurance policy covers your rides, your sea swims and your races, whether you set off from home or from a hotel abroad.

FAQ

Answers for triathletes entering this 70.3

Yes. Cover does not depend on how high the course goes. A crash on a mountain pass and a fall on the Alcúdia promenade draw on the same medical costs and the same assistance.

Training is covered in the same way as racing. A crash on a camp ride, an injury during a sea swim or a rolled ankle on a run all give access to the same treatment and assistance.

No. This personal accident policy is not cancellation cover. It handles the bodily consequences of an accident, not your race entry, your flight or your accommodation.

Yes. The contract applies whatever your country of residence and wherever you race, and repatriation is arranged through to your usual home rather than the nearest clinic.

That depends on whether you insure one race or a full year, and on the options you choose. The online quote gives you a personal price in a few minutes, with no obligation.
